How this estimate works
The checker combines three things: the rebate programs available in your state (from our dated rebate data), typical installed prices, and typical running-cost savings. Net cost is the midpoint installed price minus the rebates you could stack; payback is net cost divided by the estimated annual saving. Every figure is a range and an estimate, not a quote — your real numbers depend on your home, usage, tariff, installer and product, and on your eligibility for each rebate.

Key assumptions
- Solar: a 6.6kW system saves about $1,000–$1,600/yr; larger systems and higher daytime use save more.
- Solar feed-in tariff: The 2025-26 ESC regulated minimum is 0.04c/kWh flat (verified — see rebates.json); many retailers voluntarily pay ~5-10c. The feed-in tariff has collapsed, so the value is now self-consumption, not export. So the checker values self-consumption, not export.
- Battery: Cheaper Home Batteries Program: ~30% off the installed cost, national, since 1 July 2025. Payback is typically 5–12 years.
